Do Hair Vitamins ACTUALLY Work to Grow Hair Faster?

Most vitamins for hair growth claim to make your hair grow longer, stronger, smoother, and shinier, but how true are these claims? Read on to learn the truth.

Whether you're ready to fight back against thinning hair or if you want to grow out your shorter summer cut ASAP, you've likely thought about using vitamins for hair growth.

Currently, only 7% of women say that they're satisfied with the way their hair looks, and nearly 1/4 of men will experience hair loss before they turn 21.

No matter your hair goals, age, gender, or hair type, you're ready to give hair growth supplements a try. But are they too good to be true, or do they actually work?

Read on to find out.

The Basics of Vitamins for Hair Growth

Before you go spend half of your paycheck on so-called "miracle" hair supplements, you need to make sure you understand if you're truly a good candidate for them in the first place.

About 40% of adults are vitamin deficient in some way. This could be because of your diet, a medical condition, or even simply due to your genetic makeup.

If you're suffering from a vitamin deficiency, then the short answer is yes, vitamins for hair growth will work for you. This is because your body isn't getting enough hair-healthy nutrients like biotin, iron, vitamins A, B, and C, and even zinc.

Once you fill in the gaps in your diet, you will almost certainly see your hair getting stronger and/or longer.

But if you're already in great nutritional shape?

You may see a small improvement in the way your hair looks (think shine especially) but the results will be nowhere near as drastic as those in people with vitamin deficiencies. You may be better investing your money in a hair mask or high-quality salon care.

How to Take Hair Vitamins the Right Way

If you want to give hair vitamins a try, you need to make smart decisions -- and manage your expectations.

You should expect to take the supplements for a minimum of 2-3 months before you see results. Anything that promises to transform your hair "overnight" or "in a week" isn't worth investing in.

Instead, visit sites like Maple Leaf Meds to study up on the ingredients in supplements and to learn what to look for prescription hair growth treatments.

In addition to the vitamins we mentioned above, also look for supplements that contain vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, and lots of protein.

You can wash your hair and style it as you normally would while taking the supplements. (However, lay off the heat tools to see faster results.)

Will You Take Vitamins for Hair Growth?

It's important to do your research when choosing hair growth supplements.

Make sure the supplements you're thinking about have good customer reviews and contain as few artificial ingredients as possible.

Also, look for vitamins for hair growth that are free from ingredients like propylene glycol and sodium lauryl sulfate (they can slow hair growth.)
