3 Simple Ways to Relieve Stress Without Exercise

 1) Eat Healthy

Eating healthy is a surefire way to relieve stress without exercise. It seems so simple, yet can be an ordeal given all the highly processed foods on the shelves these days. Your body is a temple, right? 

 

 So fuel it with the good stuff! Skip the McDonald's breakfast and start your day off strong with a healthy meal, your body and mind will thank you. We like having oatmeal, or granola with lots of fruits in it for our morning meal. If you have special dietary restrictions, look for vegan gluten free granola or other healthy options that satisfy your specific needs. It’s always good to eat more fruits and vegetables and eat less processed foods, but it’s much easier said than done. Keep in mind, eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring and bland. If you’re struggling to maintain a balanced diet, motivate yourself by finding some healthy recipes that are easy to make and delicious to eat. Meals that are not only healthy, but easy to make and satisfying to eat will make it easier to maintain a healthy diet that reduces stress and increases overall well-being.

2) Get More Sleep

No one likes stress, especially when you’re tired. A good night’s sleep enables you to relieve stress without exercise. When you’re tired your ability to deal with stress in a constructive manner is compromised. You’re more easily agitated and less patient, which multiplies your stress levels exponentially. When you’re stressed, your body produces more cortisol, which is a hormone that tells your body that a fight or flight situation may be incoming. This is good for cavemen who see a lion on the savannah, but not so good for the modern day human. When you’re constantly stressed, your body, in essence, doesn’t know what time it is because it’s not used to cortisol being produced at all hours. The first step to combating the cortisol imbalance is by practicing a regular sleep schedule. Going to sleep at the same time every night allows your circadian rhythm to do its magic. Your hormone cycles start to balance, your body prioritizes certain functions, like cell regeneration when you’re asleep, and movement while you’re awake. If you’re struggling with sleeping at a regular time every night, try taking melatonin, which kick starts your circadian rhythm, or a CBD tincture, which has tons of beneficial effects.  A timely sleep schedule is crucial to a stress free life!

3) Calm Down

We all know it's incredibly hard to “just calm down” when you’re stressed, so here’s some tips that may help! First, make sure you’re getting enough vitamin D. The sun powers our planet and everything that lives on it. Humans need the sun to stay happy, and that happiness is beamed to us from the sun in the form of vitamin D. Spending just 10 minutes a day in direct sunlight (make sure to protect yourself with sunscreen!) can greatly reduce stress levels, lower your blood pressure, and a bunch of other beneficial things. Another great stress reliever is the power of laughter! Laughter has a huge range of health benefits. It stimulates your body which increases air intake and releases all those happy endorphins. Endorphin release relieves your stress response and leaves you with that warm fuzzy feeling. Another great way to relieve stress without exercise is by listening to your favorite tunes. Faster tempo music can make you feel more alert and focused while slower tempo music relaxes your muscles and quiets the mind.

Now that you have these three tips to start relieving stress without exercise, there’s nothing left to do but get started! While we would never suggest anyone should avoid regular exercise, it is important to understand that there are simple ways to relieve stress even when you can’t get regular exercise for one reason or another. We hope these simple tips can reduce your overall stress levels with as little physical exertion as possible!
