What is DBT?

How Does DBT Help Anxiety?

There are four core parts of DBT – mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

These core parts start with mindfulness, where a person notices what’s going on without judgment. They’re just being present to the moment.

In distress tolerance, a person may just accept things for what they are, without the need to control or change them.

That leads to emotional regulation, which lessens the impact of the situation on a person. For example, a person that has a panic attack in a large room may experience that room differently, leading to a different reaction.

Finally, they’re able to have interpersonal effectiveness. They can manage relationships much better than in the past.

Other Treatments for Anxiety

When you have anxiety, it can be very difficult to control. You may be in between appointments with your DBT practitioner and need relief.

You may consider other forms of treatment to supplement the hard work you’re doing in DBT. CBD and anxiety actually go together, as CBD has been shown to help many people without the need for pharmaceuticals.

Chiropractic medicine can also relax the body and reduce symptoms of anxiety as well. These treatments aren’t meant to replace DBT, but they can be helpful tools to help you manage anxiety.
