Subliminal: How Your Unconscious Mind Rules Your Behavior?

We like to think that we make rational decisions by keeping all the important factors associated with that decision in our mind.

 Well,

As much as we would like to think that, it’s not true.

Our mind’s subliminal process is far too complex and not under our control. It affects our reaction to certain experiences, affects our memories and it also shapes how we perceive different things. Most importantly, it influences our behavior greatly.

Unconscious Mind

Unconscious mind is the part of our mind that is not accessible but that doesn’t stop it from greatly impacting the way we look at everything.

It is believed to be the primary source of our behaviors. Our unconscious is practically a store for feelings, motives and decisions that are based on our past experiences. We have no idea what is going in our unconscious part of our minds.

No matter how much we try, we can’t control the way our unconscious mind influences these perceptions and feelings towards different incidents.
Power of Subconscious Mind

Our sub consciousness is a source of will power. It gives us command over what can be and what cannot be done.

To make influence of our unconscious mind more prominent, let’s get into detail of what our subconscious mind can do;

1. Acceptance of Prayer

The part of your brain which helps you believe that your prayers are effective has been linked with subconscious mind.

Here’s how,

when you believe you can achieve something, you strive to work towards it. This can only be true if you start believing in it on a subconscious level.
So, when you make a prayer, you start to believe and accept it in your subconscious level.

2. Answer to All Your Problems

Your subconsciousness has the power to solve all your problems.

In the back of your mind, you’re always working on something. It doesn’t matter if you’re putting your entire focus on that particular problem or not. Even though you may not get the solution immediately but your mind will come up a particular solution to your problems.

Our subconsciousness is a strong part of our body which can help us achieve anything. So, you don’t need to look elsewhere, as all the answers are within your subconscious mind.

3. Healing Factor

Faith is considered as the healing principle in the universe.

But,

what if its subconscious mind that makes us believe that?

In a book written by Joseph Murphy
He states that faith is a product of subconscious mind which helps us recover from illness and traumatic experiences. By constantly telling ourselves the healing thoughts, we harness the power of faith which comes from continuous backing from the conscious mind.

4. Perception

How we perceive this world to be, is highly associated with our past experiences.

Poor decisions are going to lead to a negative image of the world while if we make changes for a better life, we tend to see the brighter side of life and positive improvements in ourselves. It all goes around in our subconscious mind.

Similarly,

If you haven’t thought about your final goal, it will be harder for you to try to wake up and work towards a goal that you haven’t given proper thought to. On the other hand, if your goal is clear, your determination and will to achieve it is going to be unmatchable.

This is the power of our subconscious mind that helps us live our life according to what we choose to believe in.

While we have looked at how powerful our subconscious mind is, imagine the influence of our unconscious mind on our behaviors.

Unconscious mind is often linked to very extreme emotional feelings. Our unconscious mind contains biologically based instinct such as impulsive reaction or aggressive behavior. When a human body goes through severe trauma, the experience is often hidden away in the unconscious part of our minds as it becomes too painful to be acknowledged.

Have you ever come across a situation in which you unintentionally said some thing while you were talking to someone?
Yes, that slip is the result of your unconscious mind as the information that was not supposed to be shared, somehow slipped out while you started getting too comfortable.

Unconscious Mind in Psychology

Psychologists who base their research on scientific approach are skeptical about unconscious mind. According to them, our unconscious minds can’t be described or measured in any terms. It is hard for them to test our unconscious mind which frustrates them.
The notion of unconscious mind has narrowed down in recent psychological studies.

For instance,

the cognitive psychology has recognized one of the main elements of unconscious mind i.e. procedural memory and implicit processing.

In the Light of Leonard Mlodinow

Leonard Mlodinow, emphasizes on the fact that there are certain reactions and thoughts that are out of our control. They maybe or may not be in our best interest.

He explained that how a person’s feelings can be a translation of one event, even when that person is living in a completely different event.

To make it more understandable, he described the experiences of his own mother. She had to see a drastic change in the lifestyle as a result of World War II. From living a peaceful life to a life filled with horrific incidents.

He explained that even though after some time her mother was not living in the times of war but her actions and reactions would still be influenced by her experience of the war.

Similarly,

He stated a lot of relatable examples which demonstrated that the unconscious mind, paths a way for our behaviors in a way that we are not aware about.
Even in the world of marketing, our decisions are influenced by the packaging and the advertising of a certain product which then these marketers use to their advantage.

All in all,

Our unconscious mind contributes to our behaviors, way more than we can imagine.
