This is fucking stupid. This isn;t photography and serves no purpose. Technically poor and conceptually moronic.
Joe - Huh?   | | 2009-05-22 12:19:05
Not photography?
Are you SURE it's not photography?
Cos, as far as i was aware, taking photos of things is photography.

It's purpose is to entertain people who might like these photos. And it does that.

As for technicality, would you care to explain to me how this is bad? As a beginner photographer, i'm still learning what's good/bad, and, to me, and to most people, it looks pretty good.

And "conceptually moronic"? Because someone likes their pet rats? Man, you need to get the hang of the fact that other people can have other opinions...

Geez, you're an insult to the name of Anonymous.
The Baldchemist - The Baldchemist     | | 2009-12-09 07:32:02
Its Ann O mouse. But yes you are so right what an insult just generally.

The pictures don't appeal to me but I enjoy and appreciate the concepts and the execution. Well done!

Just quietly we real "snobs" don't make such moronic comments.

Take good care and get as much joy as you can every day.
jiggybean   | | 2009-05-22 22:02:52
@ Anonymous

Big words from a troll who couldn't even give a name. I see you don't even possess enough creativity to make one up. Where are YOUR creative and original pictures? Where is your, so called, art? Sorry these aren't photo shopped like all the other pictures you're use to.

These pictures are amazing, I know how hard it is to take pictures of rats because they hardly ever stand still. These are crisp, creative and down right adorable.
luckinflux   | | 2009-05-22 22:11:26
you need a hug or something?
Anonymous   | | 2009-05-22 22:17:22
you sound like a snob. maybe you are one.
Anonymous   | | 2009-05-23 00:09:42
So what kind of art do you people do in Amsterdam?
Terra - Um, or not.   | | 2009-05-26 18:06:18
Uh, You're dumb. Why would you even bother to leave a nasty comment like that and what do you have to show for your obvious expertise in photography? Your comment is conceptually moronic.
Firespell - Hmph...   | | 2009-06-04 16:14:40
I hate those jerks who think they can just go around posting nasty comments. And have you noticed that all but one comment(other than this one... yet) have been voted down at least once...? I'm hoping you catch my drift.
Nichole     | | 2009-06-12 17:00:07
Main Entry:
pho·tog·ra·phy

: the art or process of producing images by the action of radiant energy and especially light on a sensitive surface (as film or a CCD chip)

1pho·to·graph

: a picture or likeness obtained by photography

and it served the purpose of inspiring me to get out and take some photos myself, not to mention being cute. i'm sure my daughter will love this and it would make her happy to see.

and hey btw since you think its so bad what did you do that was better?
none - rediculous   | | 2009-06-30 11:24:22
im sry bro but how could you ever judge something like that. photography can be anything and the effort put into taking these shots should be recognized. i hope by posting that you received the only satisfaction that you clearly do not deserve
Geoz - Sort of agree with you...   | | 2009-07-24 13:43:21
Okay - firstly, your response could have been a little less confrontational but in some respects I agree with you in regard to the concept.

Secondly, all photography has a purpose - even though it might not satisfy your definition of it.

The photographs aren't what I would consider "high art" but are obviously for mass consumption with the aim of commercial profit - which is why I can agree with you in that conceptually - it really has no merit other than to be cute - which to me is a bit moronic but there's nothing wrong with pictures that appeal to a mass audience....it brings people together - so hey ho.

I have to disagree with you about the technical side of it. I am an amateur photographer and I also know a rat fancier who assures me that it is very difficult to takes images like this. I don't think this was photoshopped - because most genuine photographers prefer to get most of the technical things done in-camera than in post processing. It's the lazy people who do everything in photoshop. I think the photographer put food where she wanted the rats mouth to be which would have given her vital seconds to shoot what she wanted using remote shutter release.

It is not technically poor in the slightest - whatever the intended audience happens to be.
Mauricio "Looukoo"   | | 2009-05-22 07:00:44
OMG! u'r a amazing
Pablo   | | 2009-05-22 00:28:15
Well Job!
Keep on it!
BMJ   | | 2009-05-22 07:17:11
So, "Anonymous", this isn't photography?
Serves no purpose? So all art has to address some major issue or have some deep dark undertones to it, or can it just not address the simple pleasures in life? The little things and subtle humour that gives life one of it's edges deserve to be recognised and represented and this series does that so well.
As for technically poor, you try working with animals. This is brilliant.
And concept? What could you think of? Taking a picture of a lawn chair at dusk turning it black and white and upping the contrast? Oh my gosh you're so deep.
Stop whining. Start appreciating.
HNTR   | | 2009-05-23 15:07:23
HAHA. everyone knows that black and white photos of lawn chairs at sunset is art at is purist form. I do hope that you can taste the sarcasm coming out of that statement. I am no professional photographer or graphic designer but from my studies in those areas these pictures are great. great concept, amazing execution and perfect composition.
Anonymous   | | 2009-05-22 10:17:04
Do you know how hard it is to take pictures of rats!? I do. You get a blur of ears/tails. These pictures are sooooooo cute :)
Bobby   | | 2009-05-22 10:18:28

Anonymous. Go back to whatever chan you camefrom.
alisha   | | 2009-05-22 21:20:04
these are so adorable. :D
Anon   | | 2009-05-23 00:04:31
Pablo, you fucking idiot. It would be "good job", not "well job", Jesus Christ. People think that "well" always replaces "good" grammatically or something.
I think the first anon is trolling. This is pretty adorable and quite impressive.
Anonymous   | | 2009-05-24 11:32:28
oh my god, you're one of those people that projects that nasty, ignorant image of America, aren't you? Some people aren't native speakers of English, you know.
Anonymous   | | 2009-05-23 01:00:34
This is amazingly sweet. :) How did you get them to pose like that? Looks like it requires quite a bit of patience. Good job!
Anonymous   | | 2009-05-23 01:10:56
Ok...the person that says that this is moronic is indeed a moron. This is quite funny...I like it :)
me - animal cruelty   | | 2009-05-23 09:15:12
How about I glue a banjo to your fucking hands, fun huh?
Ratscallions   | | 2009-05-27 09:10:31
I think you'll find they're holding it. As someone who has worked with rats for years I can see how the photographer has made these work; very impressive.
Ed   | | 2009-05-23 15:50:05
Good Job!
Just curious as to what lens and settings you used on the soccer photo? As far as I'm concerned it's a perfect DOF. The background is just out of focus enough to assure our attention is on the front guy and the ball.
I'm sure this required a lot of hard work and dedication. Thanks!
anonymous   | | 2009-05-23 16:17:22
just because i think it conceptually weak doesnt mean you have to attack me. i can remain anonymous if i want to. i dont think they are photos because they are not. look at them. they are a pastiche of what is really going on.

only total morons like you would be entertained by this kind of trite. its no wonder the world is in such a mess- we keep taking our eyes of the balls.
Ratscallions   | | 2009-05-27 09:12:01
You can't complain about people attacking you if you are going to attack i) the photographer ii) the commenters.

Don't give it if you can't take it.

Of course these are photographs. Look up the definition on Wikipedia if in any doubt. They make me smile. They make other smile. Live with it.
helena - photos of rats with musical in     | | 2009-05-23 22:12:36
I love the second picture. The expression on the left ones face- priceless.

These pictures make me so happy. Thank you.

um... this website gives out our IP addresses. isn't that a bit dangerous? I mean it kinda leaves us open for attack.
just browsing   | | 2009-05-24 11:29:10
these are great!....though i don't really understand how some of the comments left managed to get so angry. how can you be angry looking at rats playing with tiny teddies!? awwwwww!! hehehe i'm going back up to look again
rachel   | | 2009-05-24 12:49:25
i think the pictures are really clever :)
anonymous just don't have anything better to do then insult people
Allison   | | 2009-05-24 13:01:59
"Anonymous" is obviously a bitter snob.

The pictures are brilliant.
Al Anon - Master of ceremonies     | | 2009-05-24 14:03:31
These are all photo shopped- You can tell because real musical instruments are not really that small, and it would be impossible to make them. And this particular individual has really did a great job with the model rats. They look so real, but they are to cute.
Ratscallions   | | 2009-05-27 09:15:11
LMAO ... I'm sorry but that's so sweet and naive. If you ever pass a doll shop go in and have a look; you can find not only musical instruments but all sorts of other things in miniature. My mother makes them; they're amazing.

These are real rats, with real props. On the other hand, I'd be inclined to say creating images this real from nothing in Photoshop is probably impossible.
MATTY MES OF FLORIDA   | | 2009-05-24 14:34:46

on several sites that have similar posts (photography, particularly of animals). Someone is going around spamming this comment around the internet to piss people off.
Don't give them the satisfaction.

Lovely pictures btw.
lynzy   | | 2009-05-26 20:11:51
This is really cute. I have 9 hamsters and would like to start doing this with them.
anonymous   | | 2009-11-19 15:30:54
rats are much smarter & easier to work with than hamsters!
Anonymouse   | | 2009-05-28 23:12:32
This barely even qualifies as trash. Anyone who thinks these pictures are good is a communist!

This has been a delight. Honestly! I love rodents and seeing them in such cute pictures makes my day. I've got a hamster at the moment, Charlie, but I would totally think about getting a rat in the future too. Awesome pictures, well done on the training! :D
lucy   | | 2009-08-11 19:24:56
cute :)
stephanie     | | 2009-08-14 17:57:13
The pictures are adorable. I wonder how you got the rats to look as if they were actually playing the instruments.. the only idea I can come up with is putting some kind of food on the mouthpiece.

Creative, cute pics =) Ignore the trolls XD
