Practicing Empathy

Empathy is an often misunderstood connection that people can have with others’ emotions. Rather than just being sensitive, empathetic people can put themselves in another person’s shoes to feel what they are going through. Empathetic people make good listeners and friends, because they intuitively understand more than most people do.


Empathetic people are drawn to others and can often be found helping where they are needed most. Empathy isn’t just a naturally-occurring gift but can be practiced and enhanced so that you can be more empathetic towards others.  As a matter of fact,Empaths with their great intuition often become great psychic readers.

Here are a few ways to practice empathy to center yourself and your energy to benefit yourself and other people.
Meditate: Meditation is a wonderful time to sit quietly and relax. You don’t have to be a yoga expert to get the benefits of practicing mindfulness and intentional thinking. Having a set aside time to be alone with yourself can increase your feelings of calm, inner peace, and foster creativity.
Listen to your gut: What you’re feeling is important and can be an indication of empathic tendencies. You should be able to trust what you are feeling to strengthen your empathetic skills. By listening to your feelings you can better detect when you might be empathizing with another person, or connecting with their energy.
Get outside: Being in nature is a naturally serene state. Nature allows us to regain our own sense of stability, strength, and serenity. Being in nature allows empaths to literally ground themselves in nature to dispel the energy left to you by other people. The connections you have to others because of your empathetic skills causes you to absorb a lot of peoples’ emotions that need to be taken care of. Re-centering yourself allows you to continue helping others.
Fuzz therapy: Pets are a highly underrated way to dispel stress and anxiety. Whether it’s your pet or someone else’s, animals remind us to be fully present in the moment. That, and they’re awesome snuggle buddies. 
Astrology: Your sun sign can let you know if you are an earth, water, fire, or air sign. These astrological signs can give you insight into your personality and what you need to do in order to succeed, feel grounded, and move through life peacefully.
Take care of yourself: Because empaths are so connected to the feelings of other people, crowded environments and loud settings can be incredibly overwhelming. Calm and peaceful environments allow you to connect to your inner self and give of your empathic skills to others. 
Whether you are an empath or want to work on becoming more empathic, work to center yourself to connect to your talents. Your energy is far more than you realize.
