Meditation Can Give You A More Youthful Appearance

Like most people, you are probably aware of how meditation can positively affect your mind. Did you know, however, that it could also help you achieve a more youthful appearance? I mentioned it briefly last year when I talked about some of my favorite beauty secrets in a post that I made on my birthday.

 
 

I thought now would be a good time to follow up on that post, providing proof that meditation really does have anti-aging benefits. The section below takes a closer look at five ways that meditation can enhance your appearance, helping you look more attractive and more youthful.

1. It Helps Correct Common Skin Problems


By helping to alleviate stress, meditation can reduce the occurrence of a number of skin conditions ranging from acne and rosacea to eczema and psoriasis. Stress can negatively impact the skin, reducing its ability to stay hydrated or to heal.

Researchers recently published a study in the British Journal of Dermatology that showed a clear correlation between the stress-relieving properties of meditation and an overall improvement in the health of the skin. Participants saw a reduction in symptoms associated with their skin conditions.

Similarly, another study found that meditation was beneficial for reducing the healing time of psoriatic lesions.

By allowing you to get back in touch with your inner self, you can get a much better idea of what your body and mind need in order to stay healthy and happy.

The good news is, you don't need a lot of time in your schedule to enjoy the positive impacts of meditation. As little as 10 minutes a day can go a long way toward combating the stress of everyday life and allowing you to get back in touch with your inner self.

Even short meditative sessions can make it easier to make smart decisions regarding your health and well-being. By allowing you to gain control over your diet and exercise programs, you can enjoy a healthier body and a fresher, more youthful appearance.

Getting started with meditation is easier than you might think. Here are some tips on how you can start a basic meditation routine today:

i) Choose a quiet, out-of-the-way location where you won't be interrupted.

ii) Put on loose, comfortable clothing.

iii) Free yourself from distractions by turning off electronic devices. Let everyone in your house know that you don't want to be disturbed.

iv) Use a timer, setting it for 10 minutes. You can increase the length of your sessions in the future. For now, however, keep them short so that you can stay focused.

v) Focus on your breathing, inhaling and exhaling deeply, yet naturally.

vi) Notice when other thoughts enter your mind. Acknowledge that they are there, then allow them to drift away, focusing your attention back on your breath again.

vii) You may find it beneficial to focus your attention on a candle flame or to imagine that you are in your favorite place in the world. Anytime you feel your thoughts start to wander, bring them back to your point of focus.

viii) Continually bring your focus back around, over and over again as you have distracting thoughts.

ix) When the timer goes off, bring your attention back to the world around you.

That is all it takes to meditate. The more that you do it, the better you will get at clearing your mind and focusing on your breathing. As you start to reap the benefits of meditation, people may even begin to comment on the positive changes in your appearance.
