Treatment Options for Loose Breast Tissue
Friday, 16 April 2021

Many different factors can impact the placement of your breast tissue, and there may come a point when you are unhappy with your appearance because of loose, deflated, or sagging breasts. Over time, that sagging tissue can also impact the size and placement of your nipples and areolas. If you are unhappy with your appearance because of loose breast tissue, then you should consider breast lift surgery. That quick and safe procedure can drastically alter the appearance of your body by pulling the sagging tissue higher up on the chest and improving the overall symmetry of your breast.

What Happens During Breast Lift Surgery?

This procedure is usually carried out with a general anesthetic or very strong sedative that puts the patient completely to sleep. The surgeon will then make one small incision near each breast so that they can adjust the nearby soft tissue. In some cases, the surgical team might also remove a small amount of excess skin or other tissue. If the patient is unhappy with the size or placement of their nipples or areolas, then those can be altered as well. When the procedure is complete, the incisions are sutured shut and a thick compression wrap is placed over the breasts. In most cases, patients can return home within a few hours of the procedure. All patients should plan on having a loved one nearby to drive them home and look after them for at least a day or two.

Procedures for Undersized Breasts

The breast lift operation is going to make the breasts look perkier, but it won’t actually increase their size. To accomplish that cosmetic goal, patients will need to undergo the breast augmentation procedure. That operation involves the use of two implants that are placed in the breast cavities. The implants themselves are usually round or shaped like a teardrop, and they can be filled with saline or silicone. The overall size of the implants is determined by the patient’s final cosmetic goals. With the breast augmentation procedure, you can enhance your breasts by one or more cup sizes so that they perfectly complement the rest of your body.

Combining the Two Procedures

Many patients are surprised to hear that these two operations can be combined to completely transform one’s body. During your lift, your surgeon has the option of using the same incisions to insert implants. There are a few different reasons why patients sometimes decide to have these two adjustments carried out during the same operation. The biggest benefit of this combination procedure is the fact that the patient will only have to undergo a single recovery period. If you have the operations carried out separately, then you will need to take multiple weeks off work during two different appointments. Another benefit of combining the procedures is the complete revitalization of the patient’s body by lifting the breasts and enhancing their size at the same time.

What Is the Recovery Like?

The typical recovery for these operations takes around five weeks, but you should be able to walk around on your own after a day or two. Your surgeon is going to give you specific instructions before the operation is carried out, and you must follow those instructions as closely as possible if you want to avoid post-op complications. By the second week, you will most likely be able to resume most everyday activities. As long as you are healing properly and not dealing with any complications, then you can resume exercising by the fifth or sixth week.
