Quotation
"For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge you'll never walk alone." Sam Levenson

Budget Basement Finishing |
Tuesday, 18 September 2018 | |
The average cost of a basement is between 10 and 35 dollars per square feet. The average basement let’s say is 1000 square feet, so the average price will be between 10,000 and 35,000 dollars. You obviously want to keep it on the cheap side so there will be ways you can do that, and this is what this article is about. There are many affordable ways to finish your basement: The ceiling The most affordable and easiest option is to paint your ceiling. This will help the pipes and ductwork blend in. You should use the same colour all over the walls to make it all go together. A paint sprayer would be an ideal option as it’s easy to use at all angles. There is another option if you have that little bit extra cash; a low hung ceiling. The downside to this is that it requires a bit of skill to get it right. But it will be worth it.
The floors
The idea for a good flooring is to ensure that the floor is kept smooth and flat for the new installation. It must also be kept dry. If you want to keep it on the inexpensive side the you will have to go with press-on vinyl tiles. Another inexpensive option is to buy yourself a large rug that covers most, if not all, of the floor. You could always try using laminate as another cheap option. This can look really good. One other way is to use carpet samples and staple them together. That would make for a very trendy, funky look. You have many many options with flooring.
The walls
If you really want to keep it on the cheap side you could hang curtains from your walls, but if you want to go a bit more upmarket you can install a dry wall. By using 2x4s you can build a firm frame for each wall. If this becomes too expensive you can go back to curtains or you can get inventive by using room dividers and faux walls. Before you do any of this though you’ll have to check for leaks or any water damage. Starting off dry is the way to go with your basement walls.
The furnishings
The floor, the walls and the ceilings are only half of what needs to be done in order to finish a basement. Don’t forget that you will need good furnishings to finish it off as well; chairs, sofas, side tables etc. Choosing where to shop is one idea to keep in mind if you are wanting to stick to your budget. Bargain stores and shopping online will be your best bet. You can buy second hand furniture and give it a fresh lick of paint or add new trimmings. Once you’ve added the furnishings, your budget basement will be finished.
