The Big Battle: Fiat 500 vs Mini Cooper
Tuesday, 03 March 2020

If you're looking to buy a small car, you've got big options in a Fiat or Mini. Read this Fiat 500 vs Mini Cooper comparison before making a choice.

The benefits of owning a small car include better gas mileage, less environmental impact, and lower maintenance costs. It's little wonder, therefore, that they remain so popular.

While deciding to drive a smaller car is a commendable step, the work unfortunately does not stop there. The auto market is overflowing with compact options, not all of which are stellar. Therefore, some technical guidance on car choices is always useful.

Read on as we look at the battle between two market leaders: Fiat 500 vs Mini Cooper.

One of the main reasons for buying a small car is better gas mileage, right? If you're considering one of these cars, you'll want to get as much bang for your buck as possible.

If you're driving in the city, there isn't much to separate the fuel efficiency of the Fiat and the Mini. Once you get on the highway, however, it's a different story. At higher speeds, the Mini gets 37 miles per gallon, whereas the Fiat gets just 33.
The Mini wins this one, but only for longer journeys.

You're buying a small car, but you don't want it to be too small, right?

It appears that the trade-off for fuel efficiency may come in the form of space. The Fiat has more room for cargo, as well as more space for rear seat passengers. The Mini does have slightly more headroom, however.

Obviously, this point is subjective. Neither car is ugly, and your decision here will ultimately boil down to personal preference.

However, we feel that the Fiat 500 is the winner. Its neat aesthetic is something you don't see in any other car. While the Mini Cooper has barely changed at all over this century, the Fiat 500's rounded appearance is innovative and fresh.

It's also worth noting that the Fiat comes in a choice of 14 colors, while the Mini offers only 7.

Fiat 500 vs Mini Cooper, in terms of style? The Fiat all the way.
This is where the Fiat really outshines the Mini.

The Mini Cooper costs over $4,000 more than the Fiat 500 in terms of its invoice price. Even worse, the recommended retail price of the Mini shoots up by almost $2,000, whereas the RRP of the Fiat is only around $400 more than the invoice price.

What this means is that a Mini Cooper is likely to cost you as much as $6,000 more than a Fiat 500.

Fiat 500 vs Mini Cooper: Which Will You Choose?

As you can see, these are two exceptional small cars. However, in our estimation, the winner of the Fiat 500 vs Mini Cooper battle has to be the Fiat. Its stlye and features combine to make a car that is hard to beat for its price.

Even if you decide on a Fiat 500, the choices don't stop there. There are a few different models within the 500 class. The Fiat 500 Abarth is one of our favorites.
