Most Common Injuries in the Workplace |
Tuesday, 15 December 2020 | |
As much as we’d all like to feel safe and comfortable, the reality is that the workplace can be a pretty hazardous environment, and that risk can be increased if you’re working within a warehouse or manufacturing facility. There are many ways a person can get hurt at work, and many different injuries they can obtain if the workplace is left to become a dangerous place. Thankfully, the risk of obtaining many of these injuries can be significantly reduced if your employer conducts a risk assessment and makes an effort to instigate protocols that will keep you safe. However, if they don’t, then you can be at greater risk of the following common injuries in the workplace.
![]() Falls, Trips and SlipsInjuring yourself via a fall or slip is an ever-present risk in any workplace, be that a shop floor, office or factory, and because of this it’s become the most common type of accident at work. A slip or fall can occur via many different ways, such as slipping on a wet floor or tripping over loose ground or an obstruction.
The key issue here however is that if these hazards haven’t been warned about and if the workers aren’t made aware of the compromised surface, then people who have been hurt at work this way will have the means to press an injury at work lawsuit, which can be facilitated by Brown & Crouppen. Falls and slips can result in at best bruises and sores, joint twists and sprains, and even broken bones and head injuries in the worst cases. That’s why it’s important to keep the work area free of obstructions to help protect everyone.
Muscle StrainsA muscle strain is a pretty common injury in the workplace, particularly if you have a physical job where you have to lift and transport heavy items. A strained muscle can be very painful, and can also affect mobility, so it’s important to do what you can to avoid this injury.
The best thing to do is to follow the correct method when lifting equipment, such as bending your knees and keeping your back straight, but it’s also important that your employer provides you with the tools to help you move heavy equipment, such as forklifts or trolleys.
Muscle strains can also happen in the office as well, however, and this can be through repetitive strain injury. This commonly occurs to the wrists of people typing on a computer all day and happens because workers don’t have the correct set up. To avoid muscle strains in the office, it’s critical that a person’s workstation is set up to their configuration, with their screen at eye level and their wrists supported.
Cuts and LacerationsRegardless of where you’re working, there’s going to be tools around you that can cause cuts, such as power saws and paper trimmers. These can all cause harm, but the risk is greatly reduced if staff have adequate training on how to use the machine properly.
A good training program at the workplace will have staff know the correct procedure to help them limit the chances of any injuries and will also teach them the best practices to become as efficient as possible.
