New Year, New You: How to Claim 2021 as the Best Year of Your Life (So far)
Thursday, 21 January 2021

Leaving 2020 behind seems like a good idea for the whole of humanity, most especially if you’re among those badly hit by the coronavirus in terms of your health and even your livelihood. Now while waiting for the vaccines to do their magic in our bodies, we have to make sure that we are doing our part to make 2021 the best year of our lives. Here are a few ways how.

Use positive affirmations for self-care

You may think that the best year of your life must be a year where everything goes right. But it won’t. No matter how much you prepare, things won’t really go the way they should. So to deal with that and to learn how to accept that, you must be your first fan and use positive affirmations, especially on yourself. People know that self-love is the hardest but greatest love you could ever give and receive from yourself. But by doing this, you would feel happier and content with who you are and who you can be.

Make it a habit to say no

You may think it’s ironic to practice affirmations when one develops a habit of saying no. But the truth of the matter is that they are all connected. What I mean about saying no is by putting your foot down on things that you can’t really deal with at any given time. Peer pressure isn’t something that only teenagers experience. It can happen during work, with friends, and even with family. But if you truly want to claim 2021 as your best year, then you must learn how to say no to things that are no longer your priority.

Set systems, not goals

Systems are better than goals. Why? Simply stated, goals have a deadline and are milestones that force us to work our hardest to achieve that one thing. While this sounds nice and is truly helpful, goals tend to make us think about the reward alone.

So what happens then if you lost that weight? What comes next if you win the marathon? New goals can answer all these but will you be truly happy knowing that you’re chasing a lot of things all through your life? I am willing to bet not. That’s where systems come into play. Unlike goals, systems teach us to trust the process and adapt to a lifestyle that is forgiving and better.

Determine opportunities amidst challenges

While nothing can really compare to our experiences in 2020, this new year doesn’t promise to be the obvious best, too. So what we can do is change our mindset to accept every challenge as an opportunity to become a better version of ourselves, whether this is in our careers, in our relationships, and anything we set our minds to.

Practice Gratitude

One more thing you should be doing this 2021 is to be more grateful. Understanding what went right in 2020 despite it all will help motivate you to do better this year. Gratitude is looking at the bright side with logic and will definitely lighten your load amid all the possible obstacles that 2021 will bring. Pairing this with affirmation and you will feel as if you’re an unstoppable force that can withstand any trials and be humble in the face of triumphs.

Don’t settle for less

If you’ve mastered the art of saying no, then it’s time to be more proactive in making changes in your life. This means that you’re no longer allowing yourself to accept substandard materials, output, and performance from those around you. However, keep in mind that this practice is not rooted in arrogance, but a deep understanding of what you deserve.

To set it apart, an arrogant person knows what he deserves but rudely communicates this to other people. Meanwhile, a better person can clearly communicate his needs without sounding like a prick.

For example, when you learned that you’re not getting the best deal with your electricity costs, you don’t storm off to your power provider or berate a poor customer service representative. You check your options when it comes to changing services. You can sign up at PowerSetter or talk nicely to your existing provider to see if they can give better value for your business.

Making 2021 your best year starts with a change of mindset. By taking these tips to heart, you will find yourself on a roll to make every year of your life a great one for you and your loved ones, too.
