A Guide to Staying Safe When Phone Dating

You have been chatting to someone for a while online and are now ready to speak to each other.  You wonder what their voice will sound like and what you will talk about.  This is an exciting step in online dating, but you still need to stay safe and there are some tips to help you with this.

 Online Calls

When chatting in real time, an online instant messaging service will be the easiest, cheapest and safest option.  You can use these services for calls as well.  All you need is a microphone and headphones to start your unlimited and safe chat time.

You can also get your own disposable phone number.  There are online services that offer this and all you need to do is signup online and choose your number by state which does not have to be the one you live in.  You can then record a voicemail greeting and when someone calls they go directly to the voicemail.

When you get a voicemail, you will be alerted by email or text message.  You will then be able to access the message online or over the phone.  When you return the call, you need to ensure that your number if blocked and avoid using your landline.

Start With Cells

You should use your cell phone for calls when you can because your home number can be used to find your home address.  Doing this may cost more, but you should consider the invaluable nature of safety.  If this is not an option, you should look at blocking the caller ID on your landline.

Go On A Phone Date

To keep things interesting, you can go on a phone date. Take a look at the chatline numbers and meet someone special today. You can arrange to speak to each other from your favorite park, restaurant or beach.  This will ensure your conversations are interesting and exciting while maintaining your safety.

Is Something Strange?

If the person is only able to talk at specific times or at odd hours, you need to be suspicious.  Hushed tones and cutting conversations short with no explanation should also be warning signs.  All of these signs can point to them not being as single as you assume.

Prepare To Succeed

A lot of people worry that they are going to run out of things to talk about when moving to phone conversations.  If you are one of these people, you should consider making a list of potential topics to discuss.  Listing jokes and anecdotes to share will also help you if you are nervous.  When you do this, you will have to remember to speak naturally and not mimic a news reader.

No Pressure

You should not feel pressured to talk about something that you are not comfortable with.  It is recommended that you create a list of topics that you are not comfortable talking about.  You can then start thinking about excuses for when these topics come up.  An example of this will be not wanting to talk about your salary and you can excuse yourself by saying that you would rather talk about the best parts of your job.
