How to Spend a Romantic Weekend at Home |
Wednesday, 30 June 2021 | |
After a long week at work, wouldn't it be great to relax and spend some quality time with your partner? No matter what stage you are at in your relationship, you need to set aside some time to be with each other. And what's better than a romantic getaway? Unfortunately, sometimes travelling to a romantic destination is out of the question. Maybe you don't have the time or the means, or maybe you have kids, so it's hard to just get up and leave.
![]() But romance doesn't automatically means strolling hand-in-hand on a beach or down the Champs Élysées. You can have romance and reconnect with each other right at home. How? Here are a few ideas you could try this weekend.
Clear Your CalendarIt will be pretty hard to have a romantic weekend if you have a lot of other things you need to do. The first step is to clear your schedule. Most couples who want a romantic weekend at home are so tired from trying to juggle all of their responsibilities that they don't even have the energy to go on a vacation. They basically want to rest together.
You may have to prepare a few weeks in advance, but it will be worth it. Arrange for someone to look after the kids for the weekend and let everyone know you won't be available. This way, you can really focus on each other.
Tackle Your To-Do ListLike we already mentioned several times, the whole point of a romantic getaway is to focus entirely on each other. That will be difficult to do if you have a lot of chores lined up.
You don't want to be cleaning the bathroom, organizing closets, taking out the trash or going grocery shopping during your romantic weekend. Take care of these things beforehand, so then you have two whole days to hang out in mens lounge pants and watch Netflix or whatever you decide that you want to do.
You can cook, but only if this is something you both enjoy doing together, otherwise it will feel more like a chore, and it's better to order from your favourite restaurant.
Unplug So You Can UnwindSweeping away any sources of electronic distraction is an essential step to having a wonderfully romantic weekend at home. Tell your friends, family and co-workers that you won't be answering their texts, calls or emails because it's a special occasion.
Answer your phone only if it's the person looking after your kids or an emergency.
Sleep InOne of the simplest things you can do to mark this occasion is to sleep in. After a gruelling week at work, this is already a coveted pleasure. You could spend the extra time getting cozy with each other and then have breakfast in bed.
You could cook, but once again, if this is not something you enjoy, you can do some groceries in advance and get continental breakfast items like bagels, croissants, muffins, bread for toasting, butter, cream cheese and jam. Then all you need is some orange juice and coffee, and you're all set.
Indulge Your SensesA weekend at home is the ideal time to indulge your senses. A day at the spa might be a very relaxing experience, but it also tends to be quite expensive. The good news is you can recreate it at home.
You can be as elaborate and adventurous as you want. Light some candles, lay out fresh towels, fill the bath with bath salts and bubbles, add two glasses of champagne and play some sensual music in the background. What could be more romantic?
Then you can take turns giving each other massages and see where that leads you.
Movie MarathonIf you like watching movies together and you have similar tastes, you can watch some of your favourites or pick a theme like "movies that are so bad they're good."
This will give you a chance to relax and snuggle up in front of the screen. You may have such a good time that it leads to some romantic action.
Role-PlayMaybe watching movies will inspire you to try some role-play. And we don't necessarily mean the sexy kind, although both are a lot of fun. The concept is more akin to playing a game in which you transform into a character and improvise an "event."
Of course, you should also dress appropriately for the role. For example, you are both spies on a mission at a Grand Gala.
Play Tourist in Your Own CityOnce you've had the chance to relax and rest on Saturday, on Sunday, you might actually feel like leaving the house. Seeing your own city through the eyes of a tourist is a real treat. You can visit all of the locations you pass by every day but never stop to look at.
Exploring is a lot more enjoyable when you're with someone you love.
Dance-PartyMaybe you and your partner are not particularly good at dancing, but you're home, and it's just the two of you. Put on your favourite music and add a disco ball for the full effect.
YouTube is full of videos that can teach you how to dance. Pick something you're comfortable with and try it. This is your chance to learn salsa together without the fear of embarrassing yourself in front of a bunch of strangers.
And if you don't feel like taking virtual dance lessons, you could slow dance on your song. Another option is to play a DJ set with visual effects on the living room screen and dance away all the stress you carried with you through the week.
Be Bold in the BedroomYou know that this romantic weekend will probably include some action in the bedroom, but you want it to be different and memorable. When you have a lot going on, you may be too tired for anything more elaborate than a quickie.
Well, now is the time to go all out. We're talking sexy lingerie, rose petals on the bed, new toys, lotions and potions. Are there some new positions you've wanted to try? What are you waiting for?
