Can Modafini actually boost intellect and focus?
Monday, 19 October 2020

Have you ever heard of Modafinil or Provigil? You may have if you or someone you know has been diagnosed with narcolepsy or sleep apnea. However, many people are taking Modafinil as the new “smart pill” or cognitive enhancer. While Modafinil hasn’t yet been approved by the FDA as a cognitive enhancer, that hasn’t stopped people from using Modafinil for cognitive enhancement.

From Sleepy to Smarter

Modafinil is the generic name for Provigil, a eugeroic drug used to treat narcolepsy, sleep apnea, and shift work sleep disorder. With Modafinil promoting wakefulness and lasting in the human body from ten to fifteen hours a day, people and scientists began to wonder what else it could be used for.

Since it promotes wakefulness and alertness, could it promote smarts? Could Modafinil be used for productiveness?
Ongoing research shows that using Modafinil as a cognitive enhancer might benefit the person using it with attention and learning. Also, using Modafinil as a cognitive enhancer may promote flexible thinking and the ability to combining information. A student could get better grades on Modafinil because of the ability to combine information and retain that information.

Could Modafinil Be Used for Productivity?

Modafinil for productivity is a hopeful prospect. Since it is clinically proven to promote wakefulness, it makes sense that it could be used for productivity. Some ways that being alert when awake can help you be more productive are:
  • Being wakeful means longer hours to study or prepare for exams or meetings.
  • Better alertness means improved physical and mental performance.
  • Procrastination is less likely
  • Focus is improved
The key to effectively managing the production process is being awake. Without those wakeful hours, you are unable to go forward with any type of project or work. A person can achieve more when they don't feel sluggish or have "brain fog." This is why Modafinil for productivity is ideal.
Boundaries of the Brain

The brain can only function well if it is taken care of. So when you don’t get enough sleep, what does that do to your brain? It clouds it. You feel groggy and out of sorts for most of your day. This is sometimes cured by doing some sort of cardio-related exercise, ingesting caffeine, or possibly taking a cold shower to help wake up.

Unfortunately, remedies that mask the problem don't always work. Our brains and bodies get used to these solutions and the benefits come to an end. A drug like Modafinil can help not only keep you awake but boost your brainpower. What kind of brainpower does Modafinil boost? Studies have shown that the use of Modafinil in a healthy brain can help boost the brain in the following ways:
  • Improve the way our brains solve complex tasks
  • Process relevant information and separate it from irrelevant information
  • Enhance strategic thinking and planning
  • Help perform tasks that require precise focus
  • Control executive functions of the brain
Those are just some of the ways that Modafinil can boost the brain. Who knows what the future will hold with the ongoing testing of Modafinil? One can hope that scientists will study if one can achieve better grades on Modafinil, and what age groups would benefit the most.

Who Does Modafinil Work Best For?

Modafinil certainly works for the population that suffers from narcolepsy and sleep apnea disorders, but what about the rest of us? Well, if you are already a top performer, Modafinil will have little effect for you. However, a person with an average to lower IQ could experience a performance boost.

The most challenging area of deciding who Modafinil works best for is the age factor. Children and teenagers have yet to be studied long-term using Modafinil due to researchers being afraid that it could increase the risks of addictive behaviors. Also, the senior population has had no conclusive studies on the effects of Modafinil in their brains. At this time, it seems as though the 18 to 49 age range is the best model for what Modafinil can do for the human brain.

Where Do We Go From Here?

At this time, research concerning Modafinil for cognitive enhancement is ongoing. While the continued research involves everything from sleep disorders to cognitive function and ADHD, it could take years before any new uses are approved. This is especially true in its use as a “smart pill.” Why is that? It's because there is little funding for studying a healthy brain.

Still, people can buy Modafinil from online vendors such as DrModafinil. However, you should talk to your actual doctor beforehand, so as to get a valid prescription.

If current Modafinil studies have the best conclusions with healthy, adult brains, there is very little funding or support to continue that research. This lack of funding is due to the fact that most scientific research wants to cure a disease or help with a disorder. Despite this, Modafinil has come a long way from it’s first intended use, and now it seems that the sky is the limit. Maybe the next round of research for an easy to obtain “smart pill” isn’t as far off as it seems.
