What to Expect Before, During, and After Facelift Surgery
Wednesday, 25 November 2020

If you have decided that you might want to undergo a facelift, then you are probably wondering what is going to take place over the next few months. Even though this procedure is highly effective, you will still need to come up with a comprehensive pre-op and post-op plan. With a little bit of planning and a solid surgical team, you can greatly reduce your risk of unnecessary complications while maximizing the results of your cosmetic procedure.

Getting Ready for Your Operation

After you have taken a look at some facelift before and after photos and done a little bit of research online, you will then want to give your surgeon a call to schedule your very first appointment. That appointment should typically take place at least a few weeks before your operation unless you have strict time constraints. The primary goal of your first consultation is to give your surgeon the opportunity to learn more about your cosmetic goals as well as your medical history. With that information, the surgeon will be able to decide if this procedure is a good option for you.

The initial consultation is also going to give you the chance to ask your doctor about what needs to be done before and after your operation. While this procedure is incredibly safe, there are some instructions that you will need to follow. Following your doctor’s directions will greatly reduce your risk of unwanted and dangerous complications. It is also going to reduce your recovery time, and that is going to have a huge impact on your daily life in the coming months.

Your Procedure

In the days leading up to your facelift surgery, you will need to spend a little bit of time getting your home ready for your recovery. Following your operation, you should have a safe and comfortable place to relax while your incisions and soft tissue heal. That area needs to have a comfy place to recline, healthy snacks, entertainment, and plenty of water. It should also be close to a restroom so that you don’t have to be on your feet for long periods of time. Once your recovery area has been set up, you will then be ready for the procedure itself.

Every facelift is different, but this operation typically takes around two hours to complete as long as no other treatments are going to be carried out. You will be under a general anesthetic during your procedure, and that means you won’t be able to drive yourself home. For at least one or two days, you are going to be very groggy from the anesthetic. Having a loved one ready nearby to assist you is going to be incredibly important during your recovery.

Getting Through Your Recovery

The average patient will take at least a few weeks to fully recover from this procedure, but that period is going to go by very quickly. As you can see from the facelift before and after photos, the results can be spectacular once the swelling and inflammation have subsided. For at least a few days, you should plan on being in bed as much as possible. Once you are moving around, you will be able to carry out light chores. By the fifth or sixth week, most patients fully recover from this procedure. As long as your doctor clears you, you should be able to resume your exercise routine at that point.
